This page is maintained by DEPHA for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) - East Africa, Horn of Africa and Great Lakes Regions operations to allow public access to their GIS data, maps and information products. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. It strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another State, with the option to return home voluntarily, integrate locally or to resettle in a third country. The Regional Map products cover East Africa, the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes Regions, covering 13 countries that include Burundi, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Republic of Congo, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. |
UNHCR Map Products |
A standard series of map products is produced for each country including a General, Atlas and Administrative Map. The Administrative Map protrays general locations, roads, rivers and administrative units for each country. The Atlas and General Map portray UNHCR basic geographic features including locations of refugees, returnees, asylum seekers and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
A variety of specialized maps are produced by UNHCR that vary in content and application as well as per country and operation.
